J. B. ISABEY 1825

A large miniature portrait of the Queen
of Holland and Duchess of Saint Leu:

Hortense Eugénie Cécile de Beauharnais
born 1783 in Paris, was the daughter of
Joséphine Tascher de la Pagerie, who 1796
Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte marries.

Hortense becomes Napoléon’s adopted daughter,
married Napoléon's younger brother in 1802,
Louis Bonaparte, King of Holland from 1806
to 1810 In the same year she leaves her husband.

After traveling through Germany and Italy
Hortense buys Arenenberg Castle in 1817
in Salenstein, Thurgau, where she died in 1837.

Original frame, wooden panel 18x20.5cm,
with hollow profile + Ring, bronze gold-plated
Image size 10x13cm tempera on cardboard.

Signed J. B. Isabey, dated 1825

JEAN BAPTIST ISABEY born in 1761 in Nancy
worked in Paris and died in 1855.
